Nottingham's Latest Skatespot

Following three years work between Skate Nottingham, My Nottingham and Skateboard GB, the Tram Line Spot in central Nottingham opened last Saturday. It's a 'skate spot', rather than a 'skate park', integrated into a mixed-use public realm development around the site of the legendary Broadmarsh Banks, so skateboarding is central to a wider programme to regenerate a key part of the city centre, rather than being on the outskirts. TLS comprises a flat plaza intersected by a two-stair, surrounded by skateable perimeter ledges at various heights, including a higher ledge that runs alongside the stairs.

Betongpark LTD fabricated and installed three steel skateable sculptures within the space. These were designed with the local skate community across multiple workshops. The space was also funded by the community, including a Crowdfunder UK campaign with more than 230 donors with match funding from Sport England alongside a generous donation from nightclub Rock City Nottingham. Skateboard GB have also provided funding towards the capital costs of the project, whilst a grant from TNL Community Fund will enable Skate Nottingham to deliver a programme of free activities through the first part of 2023.

We are really stoked to have supported the development of this space as part of our Grassroots Skatespaces programme, which also included Hackney Bumps, Bournbrook DIY, Skate Southampton, The Lodge DIY (Lewes), Pitt Street (Portsmouth), Skate Suffolk (Ipswich) and the Grove DIY.
