Skateboard GB Team Selection 2022

Men and Women’s Skateboard Park and Skateboard Street

Building on the successes of our Tokyo 2020 UK Sport “Aspiration” funded team, Skateboard GB is once again committed to supporting British skateboarders in their efforts to qualify and medal at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games (Skateboard GB Pro Team).

Looking beyond Paris and to the future, Skateboard GB is also excited to support the longer-term development of talented British skateboarders, who, in our professional judgment, have the potential to be successful at future competitions, such as the LA 2028 and Brisbane 2032 Olympic Games (Skateboard GB Flow Team).

Skateboard GB will continue to develop our offer of support to skateboarders through the Paris cycle. We recognise that every skateboarder is different and that a “one size fits all” approach is not an effective method of providing support.

Working in collaboration with our team riders, Skateboard GB will use the Paris 2024 cycle to continue to explore and implement tailored wrap-around support plans.

Skateboard GB “Pro” Team Explained

Skateboard GB’s “Pro” team is made up of skateboarders that, upon meeting the “Pro” team selection criteria and in the professional judgment of the Skateboard GB selection panel;

“Have the potential to qualify or medal at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games”.

Skateboarders will be selected to the Skateboard GB “Pro” team during the 2022 selection window.

Selection to the Skateboard GB “Pro” team will be reviewed annually. The selection window will re-open in 2023.

Skateboard GB will pay the following costs in full for “Pro” team skateboarders in 2022 (within the limits of our available budgets).

  • Coaching, training and competition planning and strategy.

  • Domestic and international training camp opportunities.

  • Entry to World Skate Paris 2024 Olympic qualification events.

  • Travel, accommodation, and subsistence at World Skate Paris 2024 Olympic qualification events.

  • Physical well-being support. Based on the individual needs of each skateboarder.

  • Mental health/psychology support. Based on the individual needs of each skateboarder.

A revised “Pro” team support offer will be communicated on the opening of the 2023 selection window.

Skateboard GB recognises the importance of the roles played by parents/guardians in the care and development of skateboarders. We will work closely with each skateboarder and their network to ensure they receive tailored and necessary support.

The above offer of support forms a genuine and, we believe, realistic intention from Skateboard GB at the time of writing. Given the ever-changing circumstances within skateboarding as an Olympic sport and the rapid evolution of various funding opportunities, we reserve the right to offer more or less support than is detailed above.
