Job Opportunity - Scotland Hub and Operations Lead
Skateboard GB (SBGB) is the UK-wide governing body for skateboarding with responsibility for Olympic, world class performance programme and talent pathway, in addition to grassroots skateboarding in England. It has been awarded funding via UK Sports Progression Investment stream to test, trial and build a talent pathway that identifies and supports good skateboarders to become even better and achieve success on the World Stage. SBGB is one of seven sports to have received Progression Investment and will play an important role in a wider shift to take a 12-year view of success and kick-start the search for the next generation of Olympic and Paralympic champions. Funding was issued in April 2021 for the Paris Olympic cycle where Skateboarding will feature at the Games for the second time.
The Pipeline Hub Project began as an 8 month Pilot in August 2021 with Graystone Action Sports, Mount Hawke, Baysixty6 and Flo Skatepark. Each Park and its staff proposed and delivered a variety of activities that supported the identification of talented skaters and helped to develop them to reach their potential. Frequent sessions, exclusive skates, competitive opportunity, health & wellbeing advice and technical coaching were examples of provision that were tried and tested. A review took place in May - June 2022 and a refined programme with the introduction of a selection process began in September 2022 and is still currently underway.
Skateboard Scotland is the recognised governing body for skateboarding in Scotland with a responsibility for supporting and growing the grassroots in the country. Following a funding application Sport Scotland have agreed to invest in SBGB to employ a person to lead the pipeline hub and support the operations of Skateboard Scotland.
SBGB’s goal is to have inspirational Parks and People growing Skateboarding across the UK. Being a Skateboard GB Pipeline Hub is a fantastic opportunity to be involved with an Olympic sport at a critical point leading into the 2024 Paris Olympic Games and to shape, support and deliver a new talent pathway in the UK.
Role Purpose
The Scotland Hub and Operations Lead will possess the coaching skills and vision to create, shape and lead an effective pathway in the Olympic skateboarding disciplines of Street and Park. Their role will help identify, develop, inspire, and support talented Scottish skaters. They will encourage a development environment that focuses on long-term success and act as a positive ambassador for SBGB and Skateboard Scotland. As well as the above, the successful candidate will support the growth and development of skateboard coaches and skateboard coaching in Scotland, in addition to organizing events and competitions to support the talented skateboarders.

Skateboarding is much more than just a sport; it's a lifestyle with its own unique culture. It is essential that this person has a real passion for and understanding of skateboarding.
The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate the following experiences as well as these personal qualities and key skills:
- Demonstrated experience in a skateboard coaching environment and supporting the learning and development of others
- Demonstrated involvement in the sport of Skateboarding Nationally and Internationally
- Understanding of performance development in skateboarding and standard required for success, gained through experience as a skateboarder, coach or other role at National or international level
- Experience of managing of projects
- Ability to work as part of a team, understanding the role of organisational culture, values and behaviours.
- Enthusiasm, commitment & creativity
- A flexible approach to work as the role will involve working during weekends and evenings, and at events
- Able to evaluate situations and react accordingly, demonstrating good negotiation skills
- Appreciative of the requirements of key stakeholders
- Good verbal and written communication skills
- Personable, able to meet and work with people at all levels
- High standards of discretion and integrity
- Proficient and comfortable with IT and proactive with the use of technology
Key Accountabilities
➔ Hub Project Selection Panelist - to support recruitment of Scottish Hub Skateboarders
➔ Undertaking Skateboarder induction process
➔ Plan, coordinate and deliver an agreed number of pathway activity sessions
➔ With each of their Skateboarders, produce a clear Action Plan, including details on key activity and focus for each phase of the programme
➔ Monitor and assess the progress of their Skateboarders and keep and maintain all appropriate records
➔ Attend and support Scottish Hub Skateboarders at domestic competition including National Championships where required
➔ Prepare and present reports as required by the Progression Project Lead at SBGB
➔ Main point of contact for Scottish Hub Skateboarder / Parent
➔ Work on own Personal Development Plan supported by SBGB and be an active member of SBGB’s Coaching Panel
➔ Support the development of skateboard coaches across Scotland
➔ Organize an agreed number of competitions in conjunction with Skateboard Scotalnd and SBGB
The Loading Bay Skatepark in Glasgow has been identified for the delivery of the Hub programme however the role is home-based and will involve travel across the UK. Consequently, a full clean UK driving license and access to a car are desirable. The availability to work flexibly including regular evenings and weekends throughout the year is essential. The successful candidate will also be required to undertake a DBS check upon offer of the role.
Salary: £12,000 per annum
Location: Home based, with occasional UK-wide travel.
Weekly delivery to take place at Loading Bay Skatepark in Glasgow
Contract type: Part-Time, Two Days a Week
Fixed Term, 1 Year Contract
