This week Skateboard England will host a brand new online skateboard competition; King & Queen of the Carpet, with the biggest names in UK skateboarding performing tricks from their living room rug or back garden.

The competition carries the biggest ever prize for an online UK skateboarding competition, with over £2,500 to be won in cash and prizes.

Last month Skateboard England announced that all public and private skateparks would need to close, to help reduce the spread of the Corona Virus and social distancing measures introduced by the government, which meant that skateboarding in its most natural format, became very difficult to participate in.

Skateboard England is introducing the competition to encourage the 750,000 skateboarders around the UK to take part in new variations of skateboarding, aiming to inspire skaters to continue skating and have fun, whilst staying at home.

The competition will compromise of 3 categories; Men, Women and Most Creative, running from 22nd April until 3rd May. Skateboarders will self-film tricks, upload them online and the top 10 of each category will be picked for the public vote. The public will vote via social media over the weekend, to decide who is crowned the King & Queen of the carpet.

James Hope-Gill, CEO at Skateboard England and Skateboard GB said ‘During the current lock-down it has been tough for skateboarders to participate in the sport they love, so we wanted to encourage new and fun ways to carry on skateboarding. The competition aims to engage with people to continue being active at home and maybe even push them to try new things on a board”.

The vote for the competition will go online on Friday 1st May 2020 and prizes have kindly been donated by Habito, Tech Deck and Skatehut.
