Skateboard GB rider Sky Brown took the bronze medal at Park Skateboarding World Championships on Saturday (14th September 2019) in Sao Paulo, Brazil, putting her right on track for Olympic qualification.

Sky laid down her best competition run of her career on Saturday evening to give her a high score of 58.13 and sticking her firmly into the 3rd position, at the highest-ranking skateboard park event of the year. Earlier that day she had finished in 2nd position in the semi-finals and 1st place in the quarter-finals the previous day to earn her a place in the finals.

At only 11 years of age, Sky is the youngest competitor on the international circuit, competing in senior events against the best female skateboarders from around the world. Back in July she finished 5th the ISO International Park Event in Nanjing, China but has since continued progress her runs and difficulty of tricks, which has amazed those watching her journey.

Sky now looks almost certain to qualify for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games and would make her GB’s youngest ever Summer Olympian. She was joined by her mum, dad and younger brother in Brazil and was ecstatic when finding out about her bronze medal place and waved the union jack with joy.

After collecting her medal Sky said “I am so, so stoked right now. I just went out there today and had fun, I can’t believe I got third place, I was really happy just to skate with all these amazing girls from around the world.” “I really want to go the Olympics and just show other girls out there that you can do anything, no matter how old you are”.
