Sky Brown, delivers a stunning finish in Olympic Qualifying event

Sky Brown, Skateboard GB rider, finished 5th in the ISO International Championship event in Nanjing on today (19th July 2019), keeping her right on track for Olympic qualification for the Tokyo Games in 2020.

Sky performed phenomenally throughout the event. On Tuesday she wowed on-lookers with a 1st place finish in the quarter-finals and a score of 35.92. She then bettered her previous run in the semi-finals on Thursday, scoring 40.08 and putting her in 3rd place overall. The finals took place on Friday and Sky once again upped her game and produced a score of 42.99 and placing 5th, with less than 1 point separating her and the bronze position.

At only 11 years of age, Sky is the youngest competitor on the international circuit, competing in senior events against the best female skateboarders from around the world. In her first international Olympic qualifying event, Dew Tour in the United States, she posted the highest score in the qualifying round of the park event and was third after the quarterfinals, giving her automatic seeding to the 5-Star event in China this week.

Skateboard GB athletes must compete at a series of qualifying events over the next 12 months, gaining points to allow them to progress. The next event will be the World Championships: Sao Paulo in September, where Sky and her fellow team mates will aim gain valuable points.
