Skateboard GB is the UK-wide governing body for skateboarding with responsibility for Olympic and the world class performance program, in addition to grassroots skateboarding and talent within England.

We do this by encouraging the development of improved skateable spaces and best practice support to skateboarders. Ensuring skateboarder development takes place in fun, safe and caring environments.

Role Purpose

Skateboard GB values coaches who put the person at the heart of their coaching practice, recognising every skateboarder is unique and responds differently to support.

The post holder will possess the skills and vision to support Skateboard GB in creating and shaping an effective pathway for talented skateboarders in the Olympic skateboarding disciplines of skateboard street and park.

Their role will help Skateboard GB identify, develop, inspire, and support talented British skateboarders working towards success at the LA 2028 and Brisbane 2032 Olympic Games.

 

Key Accountabilities

The successful candidate will:

-        Work with Skateboard GB skateboarders to co-create “Individual Skateboarder Development” plans. Aligned to the current and expected evolution of competitive skateboarding globally. Taking a holistic perspective of the person and their situation.

-        Be willing to work in an integrated way with a skateboarders’ support network (e.g. parents and coaches) and seek their input in the planning, implementation, and reviewing of programmes.

-        Plan, coordinate, and deliver effective competition preparation and strategy before, during, and after competitions.

-        Manage team arrangements before, during and after competitions. Ensuring the welfare and needs of all skateboarders are catered for.

-        Develop evaluative strategies in their practice to help understand the learning and development of skateboarders and the effectiveness of the support and coaching strategies being used to help skateboards meet and realise their potential.

-        Ensure effective communication between Skateboard GB skateboarders, their support networks, and between its staff and broader stakeholders, including other national governing bodies and skateboarding’s International Federation World Skate.

-        Support the travel, accommodation, and subsistence organisation for Skateboard GB skateboarders when attending competitions and training camps.

-        Identify competition entry requirements and documentation and submit these within the required timescales.

-        Compile and distribute team reports following competitions and training camps. These will detail critical areas of focus that require attention by the Performance Team.

-        Develop towards leading, managing and supporting Anti-Doping policies and training, as described by UK Anti-Doping and WADA.

-        Ensure best practice is followed at all times, including but not limited to safeguarding and the welfare of skateboarders.

-        Support the Performance Manager in developing Skateboard GB’s “Performance Strategy”, delivering a healthy, high-performance culture and support system within Skateboard GB, including cultivating a sustainable environment that inspires skateboarders to achieve their potential both on and off their skateboard.

-        Will lead their own personal and professional development, supported by Skateboard GB. Personal development objectives will be agreed upon and translated into a plan of action whilst maintaining flexibility to account for needs/wants that emerge within this exciting new role.

-        Learning and sharing are central to a thriving skateboarding coaching community. Therefore, the successful candidate must seek to use their experiences to accelerate coaching expertise within the UK’s community of coaches. This will include being an active member of Skateboard GB’s coaching panel. The coach will recognise the importance of working to promote and enable positive physical and mental health and well-being for self and others.

-        The successful candidate will seek to develop and value expertise appropriate to the age stage and situation of the skateboarders they’re working with. They will draw on a range of coaching and learning strategies to create a positive learning environment that helps skateboarders progress towards their aspirational goals in a way that is authentic to the values and culture of skateboarding in the UK.

-        Rationalising and reflecting on coaching practice with self and others will be crucial in aligning the intended developmental experiences for skateboarders with the lived experience of skateboarders

The Person

Skateboarding is much more than just a sport; it's a lifestyle with its own unique culture. Our staff must have a real passion for and understanding of skateboarding.

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate the following experiences as well as these personal qualities and essential skills: 

-        Demonstrated experience in a skateboarding coaching environment.

-        Demonstrated involvement in skateboarding nationally or internationally.

-        Understanding of performance development in skateboarding and the standard required for competitive skateboarder success on a global stage. Gained through experience as a skateboarder, coach, or other national or international level roles.

-        Experience in managing projects.

-        Ability to work as part of a team.

-        Ability to work under pressure.

-        Enthusiasm, commitment & creativity.

-        Empathetic and able to take a holistic perspective when working with others.

-        A flexible approach to work as the role will involve working during weekends and evenings.

-        Able to evaluate situations and react accordingly, demonstrating good negotiation skills.

-        Appreciative of the requirements of key stakeholders.

-        Outstanding verbal and good written communication skills.

-        Personable, able to meet and work with people at all levels.

-        High standards of discretion and integrity.

-        Proficient and comfortable with IT and proactive with the use of technology.

Package

- Salary: £30,000
- Benefits: Pension contributions, allowable expenses.

Holidays: 25 days per year plus statutory days.
