Job Description & Person Specification
Skateboard GB (SBGB) is the UK-wide governing body for skateboarding with responsibility for Olympic and world class performance programme, in addition to grassroots skateboarding and talent in England.

The Competitions & Events Manager is a fantastic opportunity to be involved with an Olympic sport at a critical point leading into the 2024 Paris Olympic Games and to shape, support and deliver a new skateboarding competition structure in the UK.

We are looking for an experienced competition manager who will build and lead an effective competition structure in the UK including the National Championships and regional events for the Olympic skateboarding disciplines of Street and Park. We also want to support other and existing events & competitions in the UK not run by SBGB.

The Competition & Events Manager will be responsible for the efficient management of all elements of the national championships and other SBGB competitions, reporting directly to the Progression Project Lead. The role requires any events are delivered in line with competition guidelines as set out by World Skate and/or SBGB.

It is a new and exciting position with a young and forward-looking organisation at a crucial and exciting time for skateboarding after its hugely successful debut at the Olympic Games.

 

The Person
Skateboarding is much more than just a sport; it's a lifestyle with its own unique culture. It is essential that you have a real passion for and understanding of skateboarding.

Previous experience in the following areas is essential:

·       Working on multi-day skateboarding competitions.

·       Strong event and project management.

·       Budget management and the relevant reporting requirements associated with a major event or project.

·       Working with a number and variety of contractors.

·       Delivering a project or major event with a number of stakeholders.

·       Providing regular written reports to stakeholders

·       Understanding of volunteers within sports events.

·       Proven ability to engage with partners and able to work with and manage a variety of people at all levels

·       Leading teams consisting of paid employees, contractors and volunteers.

 

Previous experience in the following areas is preferable:

·       Delivering sports competition at national and /or continental level in an Olympic sport.

·       Understanding of high-performance sport and the needs of elite athletes and support staff.

·       Working experience of indoor venues and temporary build projects for a major event

·       Working in key delivery areas such as athlete medical, anti-doping, scoring timing & results, sports presentation and athlete services.

·       Working with broadcasters and production companies

·       Good negotiation skills

·       Able to prioritise and be calm under pressure

·       Appreciative of the requirements of key stakeholders

·       Outstanding verbal and written communication skills

·       Personable, able to meet and work with people at all levels

·       High standards of discretion and integrity

·       Proficient and comfortable with IT and proactive with the use of technology

 

Package

·     Salary: £30,000

·     Benefits: Pension contributions, allowable expenses.

·     Holidays: 25 days per year plus statutory days.
